Tree Preservation Orders

Tree protection orders may be placed on trees or woodland blocks by the local planning authority where it looks likely that the trees or woodland may be removed. The land owner then has to apply to the lpa (Local planning authority) if they wish to undertake works to or to fell the tpo trees or tpo blocks. If the trees are removed, there is a responsibility to replant a similar tree. A tpo will not apply if the tree is shown to be dead dying or dangerous, but permission must be sought from the lpa before a tpo tree is worked on or felled.
